Elapsed days = absolute difference between the two calendar dates, measured in 24-hour days. The start date itself is not counted as a full elapsed day.
Worked example
From January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026 is 364 elapsed days; counting both endpoints inclusively would be a different convention.
